Regency Technologies Achieves R2/RIOS and ISO 14001:2004 Certifications

Regency Technologies is proud to announce its recent certification to R2/RIOS and ISO 14001:2004 standards, making it one of only five companies nationwide to achieve both of these rigorous designations.

Regency Technologies’ Cleveland facility was certified to the R2/RIOS standard effective May 25, 2010 by SGS, an ANAB accredited third party auditor. The Cleveland operations were also simultaneously certified to the ISO 14001:2004 standard, a globally recognized benchmark of environmental compliance. The company has been certified to ISO 9001 Quality Standards since December 2008 and was recertified to ISO 9001:2008 standards in December 2009 and again in May 2010.

R2/RIOS, ISO 14001:2004 and ISO 9001:2008 are significant achievements for our company, not only because we have unbiased confirmation of our compliance with these standards, but also because they were developed by key players in our industry ranging from manufacturers to industry groups to the Environmental Protection Agency.”

R2/RIOS is the combination of two powerful sets of guidelines: R2, Responsible Recycling Practices, and RIOS, the Recycling Industry Operating Standard. The result is an exacting standard for electronic reuse and recycling.

RIOS was developed by the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI), the largest electronics recycling association. It was the first quality, environmental, and health & safety (QEH&S) management system developed specifically for the recycling industry. R2 was the first recycling standard specifically targeting electronics recycling. It is fully supported by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), major computer OEMs such as Lenovo and Dell, the Information Technology Industry Council (ITI), state and local governments, and ISRI. R2 includes general principles and specific practices for recyclers disassembling or reclaiming used electronics equipment, and its strict “Reuse, Recovery, Dispose” hierarchy of methods ensures that electronic scrap is properly handled.

Regency Technologies is pleased to announce the successful upgrade of its Quality Management System to the ISO 9001:2008 Quality Assurance Standard. This upgrade was assessed and approved by Smithers Quality Assessments, Inc., Registrars on December 14, 2009.
